I developed a new set up for heat sealing using hot air. This is a new fabrication method to build highly precise and high resolution inflatables. Usually, in heat sealing methods a metal piece (mold, soldering iron or 3D printing head) is heated and pressed against the two or more pieces/thin sheets of suitable plastic. However, this results in the poor quality of seal, damages to the substrate (plastic or paper) as well as limits resolution.
In this setup thin stream of pressurized hot air is blown on the substrate from a distance ( < 1 mm ) through a 3D printer head (to achieve the narrow stream of 0.4-0.2 mm) to create the seal. Thus, it is a non contact method of heat sealing.[More details restricted]
