The V-Slot Heat Sealer is a 2-axis CNC kind of device which was primarily used for heat sealing plastic thin films for soft robotic interfaces. I and Kristian developed it at Bauhaus University Weimar for the work on pneumatics and Digital Tableware. I developed primarily the heat sealer (which is a ball pen type set-up, can be seen in bottom last image) and partly the X-Y axis assembly. The device uses V-slot rail and wheel mechanism for motion in X-Y direction.
The servos are operated by a g-code file at the moment. I later developed the 3rd-axis (vertical z-axis) as well.
The heat-sealer was a kind of ball bearing set-up (see image below). But we used to change the mount for other purposes as well. For instance for initial testing we had mounted a pen or marker (for caliberating alignment) which made the device effectively a grafitti maker.
